In this day and age that we live in, our lives seems to be like islands. There is so little interaction between people. Everybody really is just looking out for themselves. This seems to be the right thing to do, because after all we are responsible for our own wellbeing and nobody else is going to do our life for us, especially in the arena of provision. But I am wondering if this is such a great stance in the light of the bigger picture.
I mean, a strange thought occurred to me when thinking on ants. You know these small little annoying creatures that seem to come from nowhere whenever there is a morsel of food lying inside our homes. Some of them even eat our homes so that exterminators are necessary. But when we look past all of this we see a bunch of individuals that really care for the good of every ant inside the colony. On a daily basis, what we call worker ants go out and gather food and that food gets stored, not in each ants bedchamber so that the rest can not get to it, no they have a great central storehouse from which the whole colony is fed. And have you noticed that when you injure or kill an ant there is always hundreds of other gathering around. It almost seems if they want to help and they carry it off. Maybe it will become part of their food, I'm not sure, but this is not the point I want to make. The point is, have you ever seen someone get mugged? Now what does the onlookers do? Do they run in, catch the person and apprehend him? I think not. The other people around usually think thank God it isn't me and walk away quickly. Nobody likes to get or be involved with anybody else. You know I bet you would not even give money to your friend if they were in trouble. Doesn't matter if they ask for it or not, and they won't, it's just something not done. You know I think in our society there is definitely an unwritten rule stating every man for himself and the devil for the rest. This is sad and then we go on and call ourselves the top evolved species on this planet. Makes you think doesn't it?
Is the world of business any different? Especially not, I mean in there everything goes about position, rank and salary and there is just one position per person and that position is mine and if you dare to endanger that for me……. You see this is why so many companies have to hire industrial psychologists and other professional people to come and do certain kinds of interventions and so called team building sessions or weekends. Corporations and workplaces know full well that the cohesion between people of the same organisation who are supposed to work towards the same goal of the company is not all there. Oh they call this ambission and the right kind of drive for somebody to get to the top. But really, come on now do you believe that load of crap for one instance? I mean, let's say I go for the top, then what about the person that is there now? What if before he could get to retirement age I reach him? Do you think he/she is going to relinquish their pay check so I can take over? Do you? So why is it that people spend there lives chasing these pipe dreams of what they call life and then step on everybody around them and then one day when they look in the mirror say to themselves, damn why am I so alone? You know when you stand alone in front of a mirror and gets confronted with yourself, that's scary, because a mirror is awfully blunt and honest.
I think this is the reason why nobody really gets to own anything. Do you own your home? Yes? Is there a bond registered over this property? Yes? Then my dear wake up and smell the roses, you're not the owner of your home. You work for a pay check, which nowadays could be terminated at anytime. People all around you get retrenched, downsized or laid off for all sorts of fancy reasons. Business is not about the people, I don't care what your business's vision, mission or human recourses policy says, it's about the money. A business is there to make money and people are only tolerated if they facilitate this process. You get paid just enough so you don't leave and the company pays you just enough so that profits can be maximised.
This is a rat race and you are a slave of the system. You may think you are free. Living in the free world with lots of human rights displayed everywhere. Let me tell you, you are a slave. A slave is somebody who is not free to do what they want, when they want to and for how long they want to. What will happen to you if you decide this policy of your company stating you have to be there at 8:30 in the morning is nonsense and you rock up their at about 10:30 in the mornings? What would happen if you decide to extend your holiday? Still thinking you are not a slave? You are as much of a free person as that the moon is made of cheese.
Now I know a lot of the inner workings of and philosophies behind the inner workings of business. I am a qualified Industrial Engineer and that is what we do. We make business work so that it can make profit. We are the trained people to streamline business, to optimise it or to reengineer it. We are business engineers. I went through a thorough intensive 4 year university training in all aspects of business.
The right to exist of a business lies in the relevance of and demand for its product or service. So in essence there has to be throughput. These constitute of processes and tasks with each one having an input and an output which has to be different, otherwise it does not count for a process or a task. Then each process or task is controlled by some form of laws and regulations and driven by certain mechanisms, which is the people, machinery or equipment and the land and buildings (locality) where it's done. All of these processes are linked to one another in terms of their inputs, outputs, controls and mechanisms. So you can see that this can become quite complicated in itself. That's the reason that Ford introduced the assembly line process and fractionalised the tasks in the workplace. Now you have workers, overseers, bosses, middle management, top management and directors. The higher up the bigger the pay check, although the real value adding takes place at the worker level.
This fragmentation of the work made it possible to speed up the throughput, but only to a point. Today things really need to be done different in order to get ahead. Business has not yet caught up with that, because it would mean the end of what we know as the corporate world with its top heavy structure. If you go look at any company, you would find there are more managers than workers and nobody is sharing the workload and the less you do the more you get paid. So to get a raise go up in management. We therefore sit with a lot of very good technical people, with no interpersonal skills whatsoever moving up in the ranks because they need more money so they have to leave doing what they love and start managing. Actually the company looses in many ways. It looses a very good technical person and gains a bad manager with little to no interpersonal skills who hates every bit of his job. And then people ask the question, but why you are so highly strung, why is murder and family violence and divorce and cardiovascular diseases and depression so high? Isn't that obvious?
But now why am I telling you all this? Because I want to discuss a concept of business and society, that is actually not new and neither did I come up with it, but when I discovered the power thereof and with my business and analytical skills as an Industrial Engineer was astounded by it. What am I talking about here? Great business people and teachers on interpersonal skills said this about life. They said that you can get anything you like from people as long as you help them get what they want. What are the basic needs of people? Food, shelter and security and goes right up to self actualisation. These things work in levels and the next one will not really be a priority when a previous level isn't satisfied. The thing is all of these things costs money. So while we're on the topic of business and business is there to make money I would rewrite the above statement to; if you want to become wealthy, help as many others become wealthy and your wealth as a success factor will happen automatically.
Do you get all of this? Now we are back at the story of the ants – COMMUNITY. Do you get this? We need to move away from our selfish lonely existence to that of becoming a caring community. Our whole outlook on life must be reengineered. Reengineering doesn't mean to change no sir/madam. The concept of reengineering is one of a radical rethinking of the basics. In other words you scrap totally what is and design a to be which is as different to the previous process as is the apple tree from its pip. Don't take a hand/paper system and computerise the thing, no all you will be creating is something that will speed up the inefficiency. Here we talk about something that is so radically different from the concept you are an individual to something we are a community. This means get involved and start caring. Work together. Help as many people get what they want and your success will be automatic.
There is only one business concept or model that does this and it is network marketing or multi level marketing. Now I am talking about legitimate business here, not some pyramid scheme or something. This concept works like this, and here I will take you back to the ants again. Have you ever seen a lazy ant? One that just lazes around the nest without working. No! So there will be work involved. Community and care does not mean I will do the work for you, no it means I will teach you and work together with you building our network or community of businesses. There is a huge difference between working for and working together. Can you grasp it? There will be products or services involved. If there isn't, please stay away, because then you have to do with something illegal, a pyramid scheme.
So here's the deal. You affiliate to a company that produce something and you obtain the right to distribute or use their product at discount to you and on top of that they pay you a commission. With that you also get the right to give affiliate rights to other people, who in turn use the products themselves and has the right to affiliate other people. You see, it is actually a network of users affiliated to one another and also affiliated to the company producing the products and/or services. Together with all of this, comes support and training. To be successful, make as many people successful as you can, then your success comes automatically.
Is this selling? Here I am going to say yes and no, but it is not about selling. It is about using your own products. I mean why would you go buy from somebody else if you can get it from yourself and make a commission as well? So in essence what you do is, don't go out selling products, but rather introduce people to the opportunity to make money. Who doesn't want to make money? And if that person get involved in the opportunity, you have sold products to them, and not just a once off sale, because they are going to use their own products for the duration of their business. And who want's their business closed down? Nobody. So in essence you have a lifetime customer and business partner. Now you get to work and teach them how to network and do it together with them. Remember you are a community now, you have a stake in your business partners' success. So teach them, work with them and duplicate yourself. Now you no longer only get paid for and by your own efforts, but also through the efforts of your business partners.
I wish you the best of success.
